Friday, December 30th, 2011

Qub tennis welcomes its hardcore and new members alike. I hope you are all reading this in anticipation for the year to come. The year of a spend-thrift committee members and memorable (or not ;) ) socials!

First thing of notice is the 3rd and 5th of January have two coaching session designed to get us into competitive shape after the holiday period! So we can take on a determined dundee. It is yet unknown if there determination is to destroy us in tennis or destroy themselves in a trip to belfast! But we will be ready either way! Don your wolly jumpers and head to Hawarden tennis club to be coached by Stephen Watters. It’ll be a great way to create a team spirit for the Dundee competition and in the future the Irish Tennis Intervarsities! We hope to get multiple teams going (sounds easy but on past record it’d be impressive.) to truly enjoy the experience of Irish craic at its best!

So this New Years resolution for you from me is to come to QUB tennis regularly! :) Make a start by joining the crew at a free coaching lesson at Hawarden Tennis Club. More information available at QUB tennis club on facebook!

Keep attention on our page her for updates to the page, things including, rankings, social events, recent news, and general updates to the webpage!

Thanks for reading! :)

Tennis week 9

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Hey guys,
This coming week is the next social activity with the tennis club and we’ll be heading to the christmas market at the city hall, now this should be a great night out for all because there are delicious burgers on hand and lovely beverages to quench your thirst. Were planning to leave from the students union at around half 6, or you can meet us down at the market at 7! Your choice, email me if you have any questions.

On another note, there’ll be no coaching for the next 2 weeks as Darragh has other commitments, therefore a few of our other guys will be stepping up to coach! same times. So this week feel free to come down and mix in with the intermediates, should be a laugh to get to know one another.

See you all on Wednesday!

Week 5

The tennis email- For those that didnt get it

 ”

We are getting hoodies made! They will be in a new style this year, with a zip and a hood and pockets at the front which will bring a new trend in amongst them cold winter club days.

As most of you know there is a social coming up this week also, We are in the middle of organising it so keep your eyes peeled and watch the tennis facebook site or the email correspondence.
Hopefully that you’s all are getting into the swing of things with a different range of techniques. This coming week Darragh will be doing some drill work on the forehand and backhand grip but he’ll be moving players around different areas of the court so you have an idea of where to be positioned.

Making sure that you have all signed up for the ladder last week so hopefully all of you will be challenging the other friendly faces to matches to be played during club time.

See you all next Wednesday.

Declan

——-

Hey everyone, We are gonna be having the social at our house (47 camden street), We could not unfortunately book the boat club, so we have had to revert to plan B! Its just going to be a halloween party, with like halloween games and stuff! You can come in fancy dress if you want, but its not a requirement! (more information will be given on wednesday!)

I have been talkin to UUJ tennis club, and were in the process of arranging a colours style match between the two universities. The last one was 2006, so were hoping to resurrect it! So next week im going to be looking for players interested in playing in the competition. Only put your name down if your committed to playing, becuase all the organisation and set up etc, it wouldnt look good to have people pulling out last minute.

And that is why, we are going to be pushing the intermediates and advanced to play further matches next wednesday! So from 2pm-3pm, we are goin to continue our round robin style tournament, then we will get coaching on from 3-4pm for intermediates and advanced. Beginners are free to sign up as well, but were mainly looking to recruit from the intermediates and advanced!

Thats all for this week, and ill see ya tomorrow!

Week 4

Week 4!

An awesome time was had last wed night at bowling, real good turnout! Thanks everyone for showing up, you are all legends! I’ll be bringing the prizes along this wed for the ppl who won!

This week im mixing it up a bit! I’ll be organising a mini tournament (structure can be found Here ) for the intermediate advanced players, and for the beginners youll get an extra long coaching session based around serve! As serve takes quite alot of time to learn, and to teach, itll be good to have the full 2 hours so Darragh can have enough time to teach you the fundamentals!

Im in the process of planning a Halloween party so keep a look out for that! (more info on the Facebook page!)

In other tennis related news, we are getting hoodies made! They will be in a new style this year, with a zip and a hood and pockets at the front, So we’ll take orders next week for anyone wanting one! James will tell you more about that!

Bowling Social!

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Hey Guys and Gals, This weeks social will be at the Oddyssey (I’ll spell it right one of these days…) Were gonna go down, and show those Pins whose boss! Yeha..and all that….

So basically…Bowling, at 8pm at the Oddyssey. All Taxi drivers worth their salt know where the oddyssey is, so have no fear on that front! You’ll have to make your own way there, and i dont recommend walking the distance as its quite a hike. So taxi’s or getting someone to drive will be your best options!

Ill send out an email, or you can join the attending list on the facebook group (Located at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/group.php?gid=161939897056)
Please join the group, as it makes organising 500,0000,0000 times easier.

I’ll probably say something about it next wed as well! Hope ya all can come!

Adios, Dave

1st Social Night news, and Next weeks activity

Friday, October 9th, 2009

1st Social event went pretty well, Our house was left in a diabolical condition, which is always a sign of a gd party, someone who will remain anonymous downed a pint of Red after-shock haha, “The Octopus” got on his elite marine skills on the dance floor, that slippery guy.
A good first night out to get the year started! Next i think we’ll go bowling (which for everyone who went out last week, will ensure a nice break for your liver!)

2nd Week, (wed 14th Oct), We’ll Start up the semester Fee, Take names for the Ladder, and see who’s interested in joinin the teams for District League!

Apologies to the Intermediates last week, due to the load of People, we could only get round to coaching the beginner session, but hopefully, we shall get Beginners + Intermediates coaching from next week on. Coaching for the beginners will probably be based around Backhand technique if you wanna look it up before hand!

I’ll get the weekly email out by around Sunday/Monday, so check your inbox, and can i urge everyone to join the Facebook group to make it easier to arrange social nights!

Dave
