Northern Ireland Singles Intervarsity

May 8th, 2008

All has been done and dusted now. The sun was out for us on what was a beautiful day. 34 sets were played over the course of the day, with Simon Guist doing the ladder and cup double by prevailing in the final over our men’s captain Thibaut, but not without a fight! Chris McLaughlin from SRC Newry made impressive movement through the draw by knocking out the new captain Steven Smyth! In the ladies after many hard-fought rounds Claire Thompson beat the ‘club sweetheart’ Mairead Kelly.

Finally we capped off the evening with some fine food at the boat club, a quiz and a raffle which Mairead Kelly also walked away with, congratulations mairead! Thanks for everyones participation and we look forward to next year!

Click on ‘Intervarsity’ or here to see the full results (also photos should be up on the bebo soon).

More advanced squad training

April 24th, 2008

Adavcned squad training is cancelled today due to a lack of available players. It has now been moved to Monday, and monday nights for the forseeable future. The captain of forthriver has thanked us for participating with them and they have really enjoyed the tennis but they have asked if we could contribute £2-3 each toward the cost of the floodlights and courts from now on. Also those wishing to join forthriver full time should do so soon and make use of the cheap as chips student membership at £20!

Larne, America and Queen’s

April 10th, 2008

A few opportunities have arisen for budding tennis students

1/ There is an all week singles & doubles tournament being hosted in Larne on 1st - 5th May. It’s quite a popular tournament, so if you#re interested please email asap to get some enty forms.

2/ There has been an email from a tennis coaching facility in america that is trying to recruit coaches for their summer camp. You can earn over 500 quid and you get to spend some quality time in the states. For more information, read the full email we received here

3/ Queen’s Club Stella Artois Championship are in need for stewards for the Wimbledon warm-up tournament. Quite a lot of top stars turn out to this event, and you may get a chance to properly meet some of them as the environment is a little bit more intimate than queen’s. If you’re interested why not apply at http://www.artoischampionships.com/1/home/default.asp
